Grief to Grace

Grief to Grace

If you have experienced abuse, trauma, or deep emotional wounds, you do not have to carry the pain alone. Grief to Grace offers a safe and compassionate path toward healing, helping survivors reclaim their dignity, find hope, and experience the healing love of Jesus Christ.

Healing is possible. Hope is real. And you are not alone.

A Pathway to Healing from Abuse and Trauma

Grief to Grace is a specialized retreat program designed to help adults who have experienced physical, emotional, sexual, or spiritual abuse begin the journey toward healing.

Tulare-Kings Resources for Life (TKRL) is here to walk alongside you, provide encouragement and support, and help connect you with Grief to Grace resources and retreat opportunities.

The program brings together trauma-informed psychological principles and a Christian understanding of healing. Through guided activities, reflection, prayer, therapeutic exercises, and Living Scripture meditations, participants are given an opportunity to process painful experiences in a safe and confidential environment.

What Is Grief to Grace?

Grief to Grace is a 5-7 day psychological and spiritual healing retreat for those who have experienced abuse, neglect, or other traumatic violations.

The retreat was developed by Dr. Theresa Burke, who also founded Rachel’s Vineyard. Grief to Grace was created to help survivors move beyond the isolation and secrecy that can accompany abuse and to rediscover their God-given dignity and worth.

The retreat may help participants:

  • Process grief and unresolved emotions
  • Address the effects of past trauma
  • Break through shame and isolation
  • Rediscover their dignity and worth
  • Experience compassion, forgiveness, and hope
  • Encounter the healing presence of Jesus Christ
  • Begin moving toward emotional, psychological, and spiritual freedom

The retreat integrates therapeutic approaches with faith-based healing, creating a space where the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—can be cared for.

Who Is the Retreat For?

Grief to Grace is for adults who have experienced:

  • Sexual abuse
  • Physical abuse
  • Emotional or psychological abuse
  • Spiritual abuse
  • Clergy abuse
  • Rape or incest
  • Neglect or abandonment
  • Other forms of traumatic violation or degradation

Whether the experience happened recently or many years ago, the wounds of trauma can remain. Grief to Grace provides a safe environment to begin addressing those wounds and taking steps toward healing.

Grief to Grace welcomes people of all faith backgrounds. Although the retreat is rooted in a Christian understanding of healing, participants are not required to be Catholic or to practice a particular faith tradition.

What to Expect

Grief to Grace provides a structured and confidential environment where participants can gently work through painful experiences with the support of a trained retreat team.

The retreat may include:

  • Living Scripture exercises
  • Guided reflection and journaling
  • Therapeutic group activities
  • Grief work
  • Cognitive restructuring
  • Trauma-informed therapeutic facilitation
  • Prayer and spiritual reflection
  • Opportunities for personal healing and renewal

The goal is not to force participants to relive their trauma, but to create a safe space where survivors can begin to understand their experiences, process their grief, and rediscover their identity and dignity.
